A 35-year veteran of the Indianapolis metropolitan police department faces preliminary misdemeanor charges of operating a vehicle while intoxicated and failure to stop after an accident resulting in injury after a suspected hit-and-run Monday afternoon. According to an IMPD news release, Lt. Michael J. Rinehart, 58, was driving his white 1994 Chevrolet pickup about 2:30 p.m. near West 16th Street and North Worth Avenue when his driver’s side mirror allegedly clipped road construction worker Billy Thomson, 48, Muncie, in the back as the vehicle passed.
