This Magic Flute production is like a Sesame Street version. It's in English too. It changes the narrative lines slightly and the whole translation keeps the original spirits up. I'm happy I went there last night. The Albina Shagimuratova is just marvelous. All the casts are great. The props and well integrated with the stage costumes. WOW. I just saw the dress rehearsal for this. Insanely colorful cool--it was like: uhh... masonic imagery meets Beetles' Yellow Submarine, with giant red snakes and the Queen of the Night. It is now playing in a beautiful new production at San Francisco Opera, and features HGO favorites Patrick Carfizzi and Simon O'Neill. Had a great time at the opera today. I can really hear the difference from this early work for John compared to his new material. Overall a great modern OPERA!
