Thought on my mind: Why do people say "its the first day of summer" or "it's now officially summer-time" and stuff like that? I mean, the first day of summer (aka summer solstice) isn't really the first day of the "heat season", it's actually the middle of the heat season. After the summer solstice, the days get shorter, so the "first day of summer" is actually the first day that the heat season begins to end.
